He stops every morning at Starbucks and buys some type of soy decaf latte that takes so long to utter it sounds as if he just ordered 14 different drinks. He reads the New York Times on his Treo phone on the way to work while simultaneously texting his daily itinerary to his secretary. He talks about expense reports and market fluctuations in the same breath and somehow manages to squeeze in a restaurant review for the new contemporary Indian bistro located downtown. He thinks fast, he talks fast, and he drives even faster, but he always has time to slow down for one thing and one thing only: Hitting the open waters every weekend in his brand new sailboat. He is the quintessential yuppie.
Being a weekend sailor, one thing he will appreciate is a set of Starboard & Portside Cufflinks. Don’t know what a starboard or portside is? Make sure you look it up before you hand him the cufflinks. You’ll sound like you know what you’re talking about…as if that knowledge has been residing in your brain for years; if you show the slightest hint of hesitation, you run the risk of being told the entire nautical history since the 1400s. Or, maybe he’ll invite you for a weekend out sailing to teach you some of the terms? Hmmm, that might not be so bad.
